INSTRUCTOR CONFERENCE 2005 |
| The
Defensive Tactics Instructor Conference 2005 was hosted at the Texas
Department of Public Safety Training Academy May 9-13. This
conference is a yearly event organized by Lt. Erwin Ballarta, founder of
the Texas Kali Association. This year's conference featured
several TKA members and instructors who shared their knowledge
alongside numerous other experts, guests and participants. |
|
|
| |
In
addition to several courses, the Texas Kali Association instructors led
sessions including edged weapons awareness, proper training
methods, tactical footwork, baton tactics, weapon retention and
disarming and of course edged weapon attack survival.
Unfortunately, we did not capture all of the activities with the TKA
camera. |
 | | |
Because
your weapon is your lifeline, anyone dropping their baton is rewarded
with pushups. Leslie helps everyone develop body mechanics to make
their baton strikes effective. Participants generate real
power striking training shields and learn to move offline while
striking. |
 |
| |
In
addition to generating power to use with the baton, participants
developed body mechanics that apply to their empty hands tactics as
well. |

We
found that everyone learned quickly and supported each other as the week
progressed through a number of programs and activities. |
